Germany Takes Down Major Dark Web Platform

German authorities announced on Wednesday the successful takedown of one of the world’s largest darknet platforms for streaming child exploitation content, according to the Anadolu Agency.

The operation, dubbed “OP Stream,” was a joint effort involving law enforcement agencies from 38 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and several EU nations.

Dutch authorities seized control of the platform, “KidFlix,” which had been operating on the darknet, requiring user registration and cryptocurrency payments. At the time of its shutdown, the platform had amassed over 1.8 million users worldwide and contained tens of thousands of highly disturbing images and videos depicting severe child sexual abuse.

Led by German investigators with Europol’s assistance, the operation identified 1,393 suspects globally, including more than 100 individuals in Germany alone, despite efforts by perpetrators to conceal their identities.

A crucial part of the investigation involved tracking cryptocurrency transactions used by the platform’s operators and users to avoid detection. Authorities successfully traced payments even when suspects utilized mixing services and privacy-focused cryptocurrencies, according to a statement from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) and the Bamberg Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Between March 10 and 23, extensive searches were conducted, leading to the seizure of electronic devices such as mobile phones and computers. The investigation is still ongoing in multiple countries as law enforcement agencies continue to analyze confiscated materials and carry out further searches.
