The federal government has appointed senior police officer Riffat Mukhtar as the new Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), according to a notification issued by the Establishment Division.
Mukhtar, a Grade-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), previously held the post of Inspector General of the National Highway & Motorway Police. He has also served as Sindh’s police chief and brings years of experience in policing and investigation to the FIA’s top post.
In a parallel development, Waqar-ud-Din Syed has been named the first Director General of the newly formed National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), which functions under the Interior Division.
Syed, a Grade-20 PSP officer, has formerly served as the Director of the FIA Cybercrime Circle. His appointment comes shortly after he was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan in recognition of his exceptional performance in fighting cybercrime.
