Pakistan Becomes Member of UN Drug Commission

Pakistan has secured a seat on the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) for a four-year term, starting in 2026 and continuing through 2029.

The election was held during a voting session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York.

In a statement, Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the UN thanked ECOSOC member states for their support.

The mission said the election reflects the global community’s confidence in Pakistan’s commitment to addressing international drug challenges.

It highlighted that Pakistan has long played an active role in tackling drug trafficking, production, and use. The country has consistently taken part in global policy discussions at the UN, advocating for effective and collaborative narcotics control strategies.

The statement added that Pakistan is ready to work with other ECOSOC members and the broader UN membership to help strengthen the CND’s role as the leading international drug policy-making body.

It also stressed Pakistan’s aim to ensure global drug control policies remain inclusive, effective, and aligned with the obligations under the three UN drug control conventions.
