Karachi Bans Trucks, Dumpers, and Other Heavy Vehicles During Daytime

In a move to address rising traffic accidents, the Commissioner of Karachi has implemented Section 144, imposing a ban on heavy traffic during daytime hours. The decision follows the recommendation of the DIG Traffic and is aimed at reducing congestion and improving road safety across the city.

Details of the Ban

The new restriction will be effective daily from 6 AM to 10 PM, prohibiting all types of heavy vehicles, including construction trucks and dumpers, from entering the city’s key roads.

However, the authorities have allowed exceptions for specific routes. These include access from the Super Highway to New Karachi Industrial Area, and from the National Highway to Godam Chowrangi via Manzar Petrol Pump, Younis Chowrangi, and Jam Sadiq. Additionally, heavy vehicles will also be permitted on routes like Northern Bypass to Pracha Chowk, State Avenue, Siemens Chowrangi, and Gulsai, ensuring that vital traffic continues to flow while minimizing disruption in the main city areas.

Reducing Traffic Accidents

The decision comes after multiple incidents, including a tragic accident at Gul Bai Chowk, where a truck struck and killed a pedestrian. The authorities believe that this move will help reduce the frequency of such accidents by regulating the flow of heavy traffic and providing safer conditions on major roads during the day.

Traffic Violations and Enforcement Measures

Alongside the daytime traffic ban, Karachi is also cracking down on traffic violations. 7,860 motorcycles have been impounded for breaking traffic laws as part of the increased effort to enforce safety measures. This crackdown is part of a broader initiative to streamline traffic management in Karachi and make its roads safer for all residents.
