Another electric vehicle is on its way to Pakistan; this time, it’s the all-new MG ES5 EV, a compact SUV revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025. MG Pakistan plans to add the ES5 to its growing electric lineup, offering a modern alternative to traditional fuel-powered SUVs.
The MG ES5 is designed as the next-generation replacement for the MG ZS EV in global markets, including Europe, the UK, and Australia. Built on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), the same platform used by the MG4 hatchback, the ES5 features a longer wheelbase, updated design, and upgraded technology.
Unlike the new MG ZS 2025, which transitioned to hybrid-only, the ES5 remains a fully electric model.
The ES5 adopts a grille-less, aerodynamic front profile featuring cyberster-inspired bumper intakes and slim, split LED headlights. At the rear, it features a full-width LED taillight strip, similar to the MG4. The overall design prioritizes efficiency and a futuristic look.
Inside, the ES5 offers a clean and modern cabin layout. Key features include:
The spacious interior and technology-focused dashboard aim to enhance the driving experience.
The MG ES5 uses a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 168 horsepower (170 PS) and 250 Nm of torque. It is paired with an ultra-slim lithium iron phosphate battery developed by SAIC-CATL, with three available battery options.
The largest battery option (62.2 kWh) provides a driving range of up to 525 km on the CLTC cycle. While the current model uses a single-motor setup, MG may introduce dual-motor all-wheel drive versions in the future.
The MG ES5 will compete with other compact electric SUVs such as the Kia EV4 and Peugeot E-2008. With its striking design, spacious cabin, and competitive range, it could become a strong contender in Pakistan’s emerging EV market if launched at a competitive price.
