WhatsApp Web is Finally Adding Voice and Video Calling

WhatsApp’s web client may soon introduce built-in voice and video calling features, according to a report from WABetaInfo. Until now, users had to rely on the mobile app or the desktop app for calls, leaving the web version behind in functionality. However, recent findings suggest that change is on the way.

WABetaInfo discovered new call buttons appearing on the web client, signaling that users could soon make calls directly from a browser. In an earlier update, WhatsApp introduced a call dropdown menu for individual and group chats for beta testers, making it easier to initiate calls. Now, it looks like WhatsApp is taking the next step by extending these features to its web platform.

The report shared a screenshot showing a WhatsApp group chat in a web browser where the familiar camera and phone icons now appear as top icons that were previously missing from the web version but have long existed on the mobile app.

Once WhatsApp officially rolls out this feature, it will allow users to make voice and video calls without downloading any additional apps. This move could make WhatsApp much more versatile, similar to platforms like Microsoft Teams, which already support calls and meetings directly through web browsers like Chrome, Edge, and Safari.

While there is no official release date yet, the feature appears to be in active development, suggesting that web-based calling on WhatsApp could launch sooner rather than later.
