The World Bank has approved $108 million in additional financing for two development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—$78 million for the Rural Accessibility Project and $30 million for the Integrated Tourism Development Project.
The $78 million allocated to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Accessibility Project (KPRAP) will support the upgrade and rehabilitation of rural roads. The project also promotes safe and affordable transportation for schoolgirls and is expected to benefit approximately 1.76 million people.
The remaining $30 million will support the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development Project (KITE), aimed at completing road rehabilitation to key tourist destinations, improving tourism infrastructure, and strengthening the province’s tourism sector. This includes support for heritage conservation, digital platform integration, and training programs for local communities.
World Bank Country Director for Pakistan, Najy Benhassine, said that both projects not only enhance access to essential services but also build climate and economic resilience while creating job opportunities.
Kiran Afzal, Task Team Leader for KITE, added that the project is designed to foster responsible tourism and provide long-term economic benefits through improved facilities and community engagement.
