Another Year Another Punjab Textbook Shortage Wastes Students’ Time and Effort

A critical shortage of textbooks in government schools across the Hafizabad district is disrupting students’ education, reportedly due to lapses by the Punjab Textbook Board.

Despite the new academic session starting several weeks ago, only around 20% of students have received the government-provided textbooks. The majority—approximately 80%—are left with no option but to buy them from the market.

This situation has placed a heavy burden on parents already struggling with the rising cost of living. Many are frustrated and anxious about the impact this shortage is having on their children’s learning.

One concerned father shared that his child, like many others, goes to school without the required books. He said students are unable to properly follow lessons or complete their homework, which is not only hindering their academic performance but also adding to the emotional and financial stress faced by their families.
