In the world of reptiles, unusual discoveries often capture the imagination of animal lovers and scientists alike. Recently, a remarkable event at a reptile facility in Berkeley, California, has drawn attention from around the world. The story centers on a very special California kingsnake that has become the subject of fascination and study.
A kingsnake in a US pet store has gone viral for hatching with two distinct heads. Each head has its own personality and can control the body, but one head, named Angel, is more dominant. The other head, Zeke, is less active due to a malformed esophagus, which makes eating difficult. Despite this, the snake has managed to thrive for over seven months, a significant achievement given the challenges such animals usually face.
Cases like this are extremely rare, occurring only once in about 100,000 births. The two-headed kingsnake, named Zeke and Angel, hatched at the East Bay Vivarium, a well-known reptile center in California.
Both heads share a single heart and stomach, which means their survival depends on careful care and monitoring. So far, only Angel has been able to eat successfully, but the staff at the Vivarium are optimistic about the snake’s future.
Experts believe that, with proper care, this unique snake could live a normal lifespan of 20 to 30 years and grow up to four feet long. For now, Zeke and Angel are not for sale and remain under the dedicated care of the Vivarium staff, who are committed to ensuring their health and well-being.
