Punjab to Start Eco-Friendly E-Taxi Service Soon

The Punjab government has approved the launch of a pilot project for eco-friendly electric taxis (e-taxis), marking a major step towards sustainable urban transportation.

At a special meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, officials presented the financial model for the e-taxi initiative. The plan includes a rollout of 1,100 electric taxis in the first phase.

A subsidy will be offered by the government to support the project and reduce costs for drivers.

To support the electric fleet, the government also approved the installation of solar-powered e-charging stations. The proposal to establish these charging stations alongside petrol pumps was also reviewed as a practical step toward broader accessibility and convenience.

Officials stated that this move is designed to modernize the province’s public transport system while reducing environmental impact. The meeting also emphasized the importance of resolving all outstanding issues related to the e-taxi project before the official rollout.
