Indian Aircraft Forced to Divert Due to a Clogged Toilet

While Pakistan’s air force sent three Indian jets limping home during last night’s unprovoked border attacks, another Indian aircraft—this time an Air India Boeing 777—couldn’t even make it to Delhi.

No, this one wasn’t Pakistan’s doing; India’s flagship carrier has only its own mess to blame, as flight AI188 from Toronto was diverted to Frankfurt on May 2, 2025, thanks to clogged toilets. The second such incident in two months, it’s a fitting symbol of India’s struggles.

Carrying nearly 250 passengers, the Delhi-bound flight was forced to detour when multiple lavatories became unusable, choked by polythene bags, clothes, and sanitary pads flushed by passengers.

Air India, ever adept at understatement, labeled it a “technical issue” and got the plane back in the air after a two-hour stop in Frankfurt.
