Punjab Announces Major Relief for Married Female Teachers

The School Education Department of Punjab has amended its transfer policy to better support female teachers, especially those affected by marriage-related relocations.

The revised policy, announced on May 9, 2025, allows female teachers to transfer to the district of their spouse’s residence immediately after marriage — a significant change from the previous system, which restricted such transfers.

According to the updated e-Transfer Policy 2024:

  • Married female teachers can now apply for transfers to their spouse’s district or workplace once during their service.
  • This new category has also been formally included under the list of “hardship” cases, recognizing the need to keep families united.
  • Transfers under this provision can now be made throughout the year, rather than during specific rounds.

In cases where female teachers seek transfers across divisions or districts, the working district’s education office must coordinate with the receiving district to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC). New procedures have been outlined to ensure this process is transparent, efficient, and consistent.

To prioritize fairness, the policy now ranks different hardship categories for transfer applications. These include:

  1. Divorced, widowed, or separated women
  2. Differently abled individuals
  3. Medical conditions
  4. Widowhood
  5. Single parents
  6. Female teachers seeking transfer after marriage

When multiple candidates apply under the same category, preference will be given to those stationed farthest from home.
