Chicken Price Again Records Huge Increase in Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Read More: {PERMALINK}Residents of the twin cities are once again facing the brunt of surging chicken prices, with a sharp increase of Rs50 per kilogram recorded within a single day. Citizens have voiced growing frustration as the rising cost of poultry adds further pressure to already stretched household budgets.

In the absence of an official price-regulating framework, there is currently no mechanism in place to control or challenge the rates set by wholesale poultry traders. Even the Deputy Commissioner’s Price Control Committee lacks the authority to intervene effectively in the pricing process.

In local markets, live chicken is now being sold at Rs450 per kilogram in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with suburban areas seeing rates as high as Rs465. The price of cleaned, raw chicken has also spiked, reaching Rs750 per kg in urban centers and Rs770 in nearby outlying areas.

According to Shafiq Abbasi, Vice President of the Chicken Retailers Association, a significant supply shortfall is driving the price surge. “We’ve seen a 45% reduction in chicken supply today. If the situation persists or worsens, prices will likely climb even higher starting Wednesday,” he warned.

For many citizens, the continuous rise in poultry prices is becoming untenable. Residents such as Hafiz Sajid, Naveed Khan, and Sudhir Butt lamented that rising inflation is pushing essential food items out of reach. “First beef and mutton became luxury items — now even chicken is becoming unaffordable for the middle class,” one of them remarked.

As inflation continues to bite, citizens are calling on authorities to implement regulatory measures to bring stability to the food market and ensure affordability for the general public.
