Punjab Announces 19,500 Jobs in Health Department

The Punjab government is preparing for a large-scale rollout of the Maryam Nawaz Community Health Services Program, with nearly 20,000 Community Health Inspectors (CHIs) set to be hired across the province to strengthen grassroots-level public health services.

According to a report by 24News, the last date for private firms to submit tenders for managing the recruitment process closed on Tuesday, marking a key milestone in the launch of the ambitious health initiative.

As part of the plan, 19,543 CHIs will be hired on daily wage contracts through the private sector, with the recruitment process being fully outsourced. Official sources reveal that over Rs. 16.5 billion has been earmarked for the hiring drive.

The selected private firm will receive direct government funding and will be responsible not only for hiring but also for overseeing and, if necessary, removing CHIs during the contract period.

In Lahore alone, the program will recruit 3,783 inspectors, backed by a budget of Rs. 3.5 billion for the city.

The CHIs are being deployed to address the vacuum created by vacant Lady Health Worker positions. These new recruits will play a vital role in health monitoring, data collection, and improving community outreach across both urban and rural areas of Punjab.
