Lahore is gearing up for the launch of the Yellow Line Train Project, a major public transit initiative aimed at easing urban traffic and enhancing connectivity across the city. According to sources, a feasibility report for the project is nearly complete, with work on the project expected to begin in September 2025.
The Yellow Line will span 24 kilometers, running from Jinnah Bus Terminal to Harbanspura along Canal Road. Once completed in June 2026, the project will feature an advanced Automated Rapid Transit (ART) system.
The total estimated cost for the project falls between Rs. 60 billion and Rs. 80 billion. As part of the plan, 30 electric trains will be imported from China. These same models are already in use in both China and the United Arab Emirates.
The line will include 18 modern smart stations and is expected to serve approximately 130,000 passengers daily.
While Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has already approved the initiative, final approvals from the Punjab cabinet and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) are still pending. Once cleared, the Yellow Line will be added to the province’s development portfolio for the next fiscal year.
