Plot Owners Want Islamabad’s Cattle Market Moved to Another Location

The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) plans to hold an open auction on May 20 to set up a temporary cattle market in Sector I-12 for 13 days ahead of Eidul Azha — a move raising serious concerns among the sector’s plot allottees.

Sector I-12, still under active development, is currently undergoing critical infrastructure work including sewerage installation and road construction. Allottees fear that allowing a large cattle market in the area could damage the newly built infrastructure and delay possession even further.

The sector has long suffered from sluggish development, and plot owners argue that heavy vehicles, crowds, and livestock traffic will strain the delicate progress made so far. Concerns are mounting that hosting a market of this scale could undo months of work and lead to additional repair costs.

Originally planned for Sector I-15, the cattle market has now been shifted to I-12, further aggravating concerns. The MCI has also approved cattle markets in other locations including Sangjani, Bhara Kahu, Lehtrar Road, and Zia Masjid, with two more added in I-12 and Japan Road.

Affected residents are urging the authorities to reconsider and relocate the market to a less sensitive area to avoid derailing the ongoing development.
