Crackdown Launched Against Sewage-Irrigated Vegetables

Acting on the directives of the high court, the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has initiated a rigorous operation against the cultivation of vegetables irrigated with contaminated sewage water, citing public health concerns.

In the first phase of the campaign, authorities destroyed vegetable crops grown on several acres along Quetta’s Sabzal Road, where untreated wastewater was being used for irrigation.

BFA Chairman stated, “In line with court instructions and government regulations, growing vegetables with sewage water is completely unacceptable. This practice endangers public health and will not be allowed to continue.”

The authority has vowed to expand the operation to other areas and take legal action against individuals involved in the illegal cultivation of crops using toxic water sources.
