The federal government has finalized the date for presenting the national budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, ending speculation over potential delays.
Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal confirmed that the federal budget will be tabled in the National Assembly on June 10.
Initially scheduled for June 2, the budget presentation was postponed due to unresolved issues between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over key financial matters. According to Bosal, virtual negotiations between the two sides are set to resume today, to finalize critical aspects of the budget in consultation with the IMF.
The Finance Secretary stated that the new budget will be shaped in accordance with IMF recommendations, and that discussions are underway to secure relief measures for the salaried class. “Talks with the IMF will include proposals to ease the burden on fixed-income groups,” he added.
Bosal also indicated that the date of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting could be revised, though no final decision has been made yet. Additionally, the schedule for the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) meeting remains undetermined.
