Man Arrested for Selling Regular Water as Zamzam

Authorities in Sharjah have shut down an illegal water bottling operation after discovering that a residential property was being used to package and sell regular tank water falsely labeled as Zamzam, according to a report by Khaleej Times on Wednesday.

The operation was uncovered during routine inspections by the Sharjah City Municipality, carried out in collaboration with the Control and Inspection Department and the Health Control and Safety Department.

Municipal officials became suspicious after noticing vehicles frequently transporting bottled water from the residential site. A subsequent raid led to the arrest of one individual found on the premises, where plastic bottles and cartons—falsely branded as Zamzam water—were being filled under unhygienic conditions.

The fake water was being sold at high prices and marketed through social media. Authorities have since initiated both legal and administrative action against the suspect.

“The municipality continuously monitors harmful practices that pose risks to public health and takes firm action against anyone engaged in fraudulent activities,” said Obaid Al Teneiji, Director General of Sharjah City Municipality.

During the investigation, authorities also found financial documents linked to RT Mineral Water Trading Company, a legally registered business owned by the suspect. It was allegedly being used to issue fake invoices and deceive consumers.

The Sharjah Municipality coordinated with the Department of Economic Development to revoke the company’s license and shut down the operation. The suspect has been handed over to Sharjah Police for further legal proceedings.

All counterfeit items were seized, and the residence used for the scheme has been sealed according to municipal regulations.

Officials have urged the public to report any dubious business practices, reiterating their dedication to safeguarding consumer rights and public health.
