Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed traffic police across Punjab to implement a 100-point plan to modernize and streamline the traffic system. The move aims to improve road safety, upgrade infrastructure, raise public awareness, and enhance the overall performance of traffic wardens.
Key measures include higher fines for traffic violations, improved road engineering, installation of awareness signboards, and the distribution of body cameras. Major cities have been tasked with deploying 10 body cameras each within a week, while smaller towns will receive three.
The Safe Cities Authority has been instructed to install digital awareness screens within 45 days. A summary proposing increased fines must be submitted within five days.
Other assigned tasks cover e-challan recovery, action against illegal rickshaws, updated traffic uniforms, revision of traffic rules, and performance evaluations for wardens.
Out of the 100 assigned points, 97 must be completed within 15 days. The remaining three, which involve longer-term structural changes, are to be executed within 30 to 45 days.
