The Punjab government has decided to regularize illegal housing societies and introduce a fully digital housing management system across the province.
This decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The session focused on creating a regulatory mechanism for unauthorized societies, removing unnecessary approvals, and streamlining the registration process for public ease.
Maryam Nawaz ordered the elimination of irrelevant No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to simplify housing society registration. She stressed that the public should not suffer due to complicated procedures.
The meeting also approved the formation of a special committee to oversee the regularization process. The Chief Minister directed that issues related to illegal housing schemes be resolved swiftly and in accordance with the law.
Punjab will also introduce a “Housing Society Management System” for the first time. The digital system will allow online handling of society approvals, management, and property transfers. NOC fees will be submitted online, and all required documents can be uploaded digitally.
The new system aims to ensure transparent development and protect citizens from fraud. Maryam Nawaz condemned the exploitation of low-income individuals by illegal societies, adding that some government departments were also responsible for enabling such schemes.
She said existing schemes may be granted a one-time amnesty under strict legal conditions to permanently resolve the issue.
