Cyber Helpline 1799 Launched

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi officially inaugurated the helpline centre of the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA) during a visit to its headquarters in Islamabad on Tuesday.

As reported by 24NewsHD TV, Naqvi also approved the revival of the National Cyber Scouts Programme, an initiative designed to raise awareness and train students on cybersecurity and online threats.

During the visit, the minister inspected several key departments of the agency, including the helpline unit, forensic laboratory, and network security division. He commended the professionalism and innovative efforts of the staff, encouraging them to maintain high standards in cybercrime prevention and investigation.

Naqvi directed relevant authorities to ensure prompt and efficient handling of cybercrime complaints and emphasized the importance of public engagement in countering digital threats. He announced that the NCCIA helpline is now active, and citizens can file complaints by dialing 1799.

Addressing the rising challenges of cybersecurity in the digital age, especially with the emergence of artificial intelligence, the interior minister stressed the urgent need for cutting-edge technology, robust software and hardware systems, and the recruitment of skilled personnel with proper resources.

He also called for a modernization plan for the NCCIA headquarters and instructed immediate action to address existing staff shortages. Furthermore, Naqvi approved a new official logo and flag for the agency, marking a fresh identity for the institution.

Director General NCCIA Waqar Uddin Syed briefed the minister on the agency’s current operations and plans. The event was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, and other senior officials.
