The Sindh government has earmarked more than Rs. 50 billion for the development of Karachi’s Yellow Line and Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects in the provincial budget for 2025-26.
According to official budget documents and sources, Rs. 27 billion will be allocated for the Yellow Line BRT project, while Rs. 26 billion is set aside for the Red Line BRT. These two projects are among the largest investments in Karachi’s mass transit system and are expected to ease daily commutes for millions of residents.
The Yellow Line BRT will connect key residential and commercial areas, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and cut travel times across the city. The Red Line BRT, already under construction, will further expand Karachi’s public transport network, linking major neighborhoods and providing a reliable alternative to private vehicles.
Overall, the Sindh government has proposed a total allocation of Rs. 110 billion for six major development projects in Karachi for the upcoming fiscal year. Of this, Rs. 13 billion will come from provincial funds, while the remaining Rs. 97 billion will be sourced through foreign project assistance.
Other key projects in the budget include Rs. 8.8 billion for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Service, Rs. 18 billion for the Click Project of Local Government, Rs. 3 billion for the Click investment project, Rs. 9 billion for the Solid Waste Emergency Project, and Rs. 18.8 billion for Karachi Water and Sewerage Service Phase-2.
