Dubai has officially rolled out a new summer work schedule for public sector employees, introducing a four-day workweek and reduced working hours starting Tuesday, July 1, and running through Friday, September 12, 2025.
This initiative, called “Our Flexible Summer”, follows a successful pilot program launched in 2024 and aims to improve work-life balance, employee well-being, and overall productivity.
The Dubai Government Human Resources Department announced the continuation and expansion of the program, which will now include 21 government departments—up from 15 entities in last year’s trial. Based on employee feedback, the pilot was found to increase satisfaction and create a healthier, more engaging work culture.
Under the new structure, public sector staff will be divided into two work groups:
This approach still complies with the standard five-day public sector schedule while offering greater flexibility.
The initiative is in line with the “Year of Community” campaign launched across the UAE, which encourages stronger family bonds and community cohesion. The flexible hours are also intended to support families during the school summer break, giving parents more time with their children.
Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, emphasized that this year’s rollout builds on last year’s successful trial.
“This initiative reflects our ongoing efforts to enhance the government work environment, tailoring it to meet both employee needs and community expectations. We’re aiming to create a modern, adaptive government system that promotes both efficiency and personal well-being,” he said.
He also highlighted Dubai’s commitment to leading in sustainable and people-first government practices.
While the initiative currently applies only to public sector workers, government officials have encouraged private sector companies to explore similar remote and flexible work models.
A Dubai government survey published in November 2024 found that increased flexibility in work hours could significantly reduce traffic congestion during peak commuting times. Additionally, a UAE government white paper released in January 2025 highlighted the broad benefits of remote work, particularly in improving employee satisfaction and operational efficiency for both public and private organizations.
