KP Increases Peshawar BRT Ticket Prices

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority has announced a fare hike for the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, increasing the per-stop fare by Rs 10. The revised fares will take effect starting July 1.

In an official statement, the Transport Department explained that the fare adjustment is a response to rising inflation and is aimed at helping reduce the financial losses the BRT project has been facing.

While the fare increase aims to stabilize the system’s finances, it is likely to be met with mixed reactions from passengers who rely on the service for daily commutes.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier this month, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) was forced to reverse its decision to increase metro and electric bus fares. Reports had indicated a planned fare hike, which sparked widespread public criticism.

After initially denying the move, the CDA went ahead with the increase, only to face significant backlash from commuters and transport advocacy groups.

Under mounting pressure, the CDA rolled back the fare hike, restoring the previous ticket prices for the metro and electric buses, much to the relief of daily travelers in the capital.
