The Punjab government has decided to solarize all courts in the province, with the Energy Department allocating Rs. 3.04 billion for the project. The Punjab Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency will complete the solarization process by June 2027.
A budget of Rs. 2.87 billion will be spent on purchasing solar panels, equipment, and machinery. Additionally, Rs. 60 million will be spent on consultancy services, Rs. 6 million on rental vehicles, and Rs. 3 million on fuel costs.
Rs. 8.62 million will be allocated for emergency expenses related to the project. Currently, the subordinate courts across Punjab consume 2.17 million units of electricity annually. The installation of solar panels in these courts is expected to save approximately Rs. 1.635 billion in electricity costs each year.
Additionally, the Lahore High Court’s regional benches in Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, and Multan use 121,000 units of electricity annually, and solar panel installation at these locations is expected to save Rs. 61.8 million annually.
The project will also involve significant investments in Lahore’s district courts, with Rs. 164.24 million allocated for the District Courts, Rs. 36.5 million for the Model Town Courts, and Rs. 31.2 million for the Cantonment Courts to install solar panels.
