Karachi is Getting 100 EV Charging Stations

Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has announced that the provincial government will set up 100 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Karachi.

Speaking during the Sindh Assembly’s budget session, the minister said that legislation to regulate and support EV infrastructure is also in the works. He added that this move aligns with Sindh’s broader efforts to promote clean energy and sustainable transport.

Highlighting governance, Shah said Sindh boasts the most autonomous local councils in the country, emphasising the provincial government’s commitment to decentralisation.

However, he expressed concern that funds allocated for Sindh, particularly Karachi, are being redirected to other regions by the federal government.

This announcement follows the recent launch of Pakistan’s National Electric Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025–30 by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan.

During a joint press briefing with Secretary Industries Saif Anjum and EDB CEO Engr. Khuda Bukhsh, Haroon said the NEV policy supports the Prime Minister’s vision for clean and affordable transport. He noted that the transport sector is a major source of carbon emissions and that EV adoption is key to reducing fossil fuel reliance and urban air pollution.
