Punjab Orders Rawalpindi-Murree-Kohala Road Completion to Ease Murree Traffic

The Punjab government has asked the Communication and Works Department to complete the Rawalpindi-Murree-Kohala (RMK) Road by August to reduce traffic pressure on the Murree Expressway.

Provincial Minister for Communication and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth inspected the project, which forms a key part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Murree Development Plan.

During the visit, he travelled more than 31 kilometers along the under-construction road to review its pace, quality, and overall progress.

Officials briefed the minister that the project has reached 60 percent physical progress and that the remaining work is moving quickly.

Bharth directed the team to finish the road by August while maintaining high construction standards.

He said the project will improve travel for tourists and residents, strengthen regional connectivity, and support tourism and socioeconomic development in Murree and nearby areas.

Meanwhile, traffic on the Murree Expressway has increased due to the closure of the RMK Road and ongoing repair work. The City Traffic Police Murree have deployed additional staff and placed the city on high alert to manage the growing flow of vehicles.

Authorities have urged tourists and citizens to use alternative routes, avoid unnecessary travel, follow traffic wardens’ instructions, and maintain lane discipline.

They also advised motorists to contact the traffic control room at 051-9269200 in case of any travel disruption.
