WASA Declares Rain Emergency in Rawalpindi

Torrential rains lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad early Wednesday morning, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi to declare a rain emergency and issue a high alert.

According to WASA Managing Director Muhammad Salim Ashraf, the agency’s field teams have been deployed to low-lying areas with heavy machinery to prevent waterlogging and manage any potential flooding. Over 80 mm of rainfall has been recorded in various parts of the twin cities so far.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recorded 52 mm of rain in Saidpur, 66 mm in Bokra, 55 mm in Shamsabad, 53 mm in Pirwadhai, 41 mm at Kutchery, 32 mm at PMD, and 25 mm in Golra.

WASA officials confirmed that all major drains, including Nullah Leh, are being continuously monitored. As of now, the water flow in Nullah Leh remains within safe limits. At Katarian, the water level was recorded at 9 feet, while at Gawalmandi Bridge, it stood at 5 feet.

Authorities have assured residents that all necessary preparations have been made to respond swiftly in case of any emergency situation arising from the ongoing rainfall. Citizens are advised to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
