Islamabad and Rawalpindi Face Flood Threat Amid Heavy Rainfall

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rainfall in Islamabad and Rawalpindi over the next 24 hours, following heavy downpours on Monday night that triggered high alerts in several areas.

According to PMD data, Islamabad’s H-8 sector recorded the highest rainfall at 66mm, while Shamsabad in Rawalpindi received 59mm. The recent rains have pushed water levels in key reservoirs close to their maximum capacity. Rawal Dam’s water level has reached 1,735.5 feet, just below its full capacity of 1,752 feet. Simly Dam is also nearing its limit, with the current level at 2,247.55 feet against a capacity of 2,315 feet.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) reported that the water level in Nullah Lai at Katarian was 12.5 feet, and 6.5 feet at Gawalmandi Bridge. Authorities have advised residents in low-lying areas to avoid unnecessary movement and remain alert for possible flooding.

Rain is also expected in Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Narowal. Most districts in Sindh will continue to experience hot and humid conditions, while Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to remain dry. In Azad Kashmir, rain with thunder and gusty winds is forecast.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge the public to follow safety guidelines during the ongoing wet spell.
