The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced drones and modern equipment to enhance its flood response capabilities, aiming to improve emergency rescue operations during natural disasters.
During a review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) demonstrated how drones would be utilized to deliver life jackets, ropes, and other essential supplies to flood-affected areas.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the need for early response measures and directed authorities to intensify public awareness campaigns, particularly discouraging people from venturing near rivers during floods.
In a bid to bolster tourist safety, the government has mandated that hotels keep life jackets and emergency equipment readily available. The Tourism Department will also issue regular travel advisories to alert visitors about potential risks.
Further measures include demarcating river boundaries to prevent illegal constructions, conducting mock drills for rescue teams, and training local communities in emergency preparedness.
The Chief Secretary ordered all relevant departments to maintain a strong presence at high-risk locations and take strict action against encroachments.
These initiatives underscore the provincial government’s commitment to minimizing flood-related casualties through technology-driven solutions and proactive disaster management strategies.
