While many major roads in Karachi now offer free parking, the city government has clarified that 11 parking areas will continue to charge fees. These locations are typically enclosed or have boundary walls and are owned by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). They are usually busy spots like large shopping areas.
KMC also stated that this change to free parking on some roads won’t significantly impact the city’s income. Most of the money earned from parking comes from these enclosed, paid sites, not from open-road parking.
