Flyover and Underpass Worth Rs. 8.77 Billion Inaugurated in Rawalpindi

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated two major infrastructure projects in Rawalpindi — the Nawaz Sharif Flyover on Adiala Road and the GPO Chowk Underpass on Mall Road. These projects, worth Rs. 8.77 billion, aim to improve traffic flow and reduce travel time for commuters.

The Nawaz Sharif Flyover will benefit traffic coming from Katcheri Chowk towards GT Road, Rawalpindi Ring Road, and Chakri Interchange. The project also includes a 2-kilometer service road. The flyover is expected to ease traffic for areas like Adiala, Gorakhpur, Khalsa Khurd, and Jarar Camp.

The GPO Chowk Underpass is part of a signal-free corridor on Mall Road. It features an intelligent traffic signal system and a pedestrian underpass near AFIC. The project is expected to ease movement for patients visiting CMH, MH, and AFIC hospitals, while also improving access to Sadar Bazaar and the railway station.

Officials estimate around 300,000 vehicles will use the flyover and underpass daily. These developments are part of 67 road projects spanning 607 km in Rawalpindi, with 51 already completed. Maryam Nawaz praised the efforts of all departments involved, calling the projects a major relief for the city’s residents.

  • Ts was not 8.7 billon 😂😂😂😂😂 its sooonsmall lol what traffic will it slow?….. could have spend that money on people dying due to hunger orr hospital feesss. But whatever helps you in corruption i guess. 😂😂😂

  • Govt is concentrating only in building underpasses, bridges. Shortage of water and abundance of water during raining season causes havoc to general public property and daily life. Many valuable lives are lost in flooding and property and houses are demolished.
It is high time that storage water tanks must be built to store excess water that disrupt daily life of ordinary citizens. Teachers and students of so many engineering universities of country must be engaged to design such road net work that drain rain water to storage water tanks instead of pool of water standing on roads that disturb daily lives and destruction of properties and lives caused by flooding.
