Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated the financial requirements for foreign nationals applying for permanent residence through Express Entry. The revised settlement fund thresholds came into effect on July 7, 2025, increasing the required amounts by approximately $500 per applicant.
Applicants under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) must now show higher savings. For a single applicant, the minimum required funds have risen from $14,690 to $15,263. The adjustment impacts all family sizes, with the threshold for a family of four now set at $28,362.
| Family Size | Funds Required (as of July 7, 2025) | Previous Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $15,263 | $14,690 |
| 2 | $19,001 | $18,288 |
| 3 | $23,360 | $22,483 |
| 4 | $28,362 | $27,297 |
| 5 | $32,168 | $30,690 |
| 6 | $36,280 | $34,917 |
| 7 | $40,392 | $38,875 |
| Each additional member | $4,112 | $3,958 |
Express Entry applicants must update their proof of funds in their profile by July 28, 2025, to remain eligible.
The update applies only to candidates under FSWP and FSTP. Applicants under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), or those with a valid job offer and work authorization in Canada, are exempt but must still upload a letter explaining their exemption.
Acceptable proof includes official bank letters with the institution’s letterhead, contact details, account numbers, balances, debts, and six-month averages. Funds must be readily available, legally accessible, and not include real estate equity or borrowed money.
The family size includes the applicant, their spouse or partner, dependent children (including those of the spouse), and dependent grandchildren, even if they are not accompanying the applicant to Canada.
The Express Entry system remains Canada’s leading immigration pathway, with the government issuing over 100,000 invitations annually to eligible candidates.
