The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an extensive weather advisory warning of widespread thunderstorms, heavy rains, strong winds, and flooding risks across multiple regions of Pakistan from July 13 to 16. The alert follows the onset of intensified monsoon activity across the country.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is expected to experience severe weather, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall, in areas such as Swat, Dir, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Peshawar. The PDMA has warned of potential flooding in local streams and rivers due to persistent downpours.
In Punjab, the Meteorological Department has predicted rain and thunderstorms across Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad, with heavy rainfall expected in the Potohar region, northeastern Punjab, and around D.G. Khan. Lahore’s AQI stood at 157, ranking it sixth globally for pollution, while the temperature remained around 34°C with 55% humidity. The rains are forecast to continue in Lahore through July 16.
Authorities in Rawalpindi have declared a flood emergency, with Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema confirming the establishment of seven relief camps. Nullah Lai and surrounding waterways are being monitored around the clock, and a central emergency control room has been set up.
In Karachi, overcast conditions are expected to bring light showers on July 13. A third monsoon spell is likely from July 15 to 17, bringing moderate rain to Karachi and nearby districts. The temperature is hovering around 32°C but feels like 39°C due to humidity levels at 60%. Winds are blowing at 19 km/h from the southwest.
Murree, Galiyat, and areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are under a heavy rain and landslide warning. The risk of landslides is especially high in hilly regions of KP, Murree, and the northern areas, where transport routes may face serious disruption.
Hot and humid weather is forecast in most parts of Sindh, with light rain expected in Umerkot, Mithi, Sukkur, and coastal areas. In Balochistan, districts such as Barkhan, Kohlu, Zhob, and Lasbela are likely to experience thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain.
From July 13 to 14, urban flooding is likely in several cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Peshawar. Gusty winds could also damage weak infrastructure such as power lines, trees, and solar panels, prompting officials to urge the public to remain vigilant.
The PDMA continues to monitor the situation and has urged citizens in vulnerable areas to stay updated through official channels and take precautionary measures during the ongoing monsoon period.
