Batteries Stolen From Flood Warning System in Rawalpindi

The flood warning system at Chungi No. 4 on Nullah Leh went offline after unknown individuals stole its backup batteries in the Ganjmandi police station area, according to officials.

Authorities said the incident took place on Wednesday when thieves broke open the locks of the flood monitoring post and made away with six batteries that had been installed since 2006.

The theft disrupted communication between the flood post and the central control room, forcing authorities to temporarily shift the system to run on electricity.

The theft came to light after Rescue 1122 notified the relevant departments. In response, the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi acted swiftly, replacing the stolen batteries and restoring the system’s link with the control room to ensure flood alerts could be issued without interruption.

A case has been registered at the Ganjmandi police station against unidentified suspects. Investigations are underway to trace those involved.
