Google has officially announced that it will host its next major hardware event on August 20, where the company is set to unveil the Pixel 10 series along with several new devices. The confirmation follows weeks of speculation and aligns with multiple credible leaks that had suggested a mid-to-late August timeline.
What to Expect
The upcoming event will serve as the launch platform for Google’s newest smartphone lineup, including the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Google is also expected to debut the Pixel Watch 4 and may announce the Pixel Buds 2a, a follow-up to its entry-level wireless earbuds.
Tensor G5 SoC
All models in the Pixel 10 lineup will be powered by the Tensor G5, Google’s next-generation system-on-chip. It is going to be the first Tensor chip to be manufactured by TSMC, moving away from the Samsung fabrication process used in previous iterations. The switch is expected to result in better thermal performance, lower power consumption, and overall improved efficiency.
Camera upgrades are also anticipated across the range, with macro photography features reportedly supported on both the ultrawide and telephoto lenses. Additionally, the devices will introduce support for “Pixelsnap” magnetic accessories, though, unlike Apple’s MagSafe system, the magnets will only be present in specially designed cases, not embedded directly into the phones.
Pixel 9 Recap
The Pixel 10 series follows the Pixel 9 lineup, which was introduced in 2024. While the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro earned praise for their clean Android experience and AI-driven camera features, some users and reviewers criticized the Tensor G3 chip for limited thermal efficiency and modest performance gains. Battery life was also an area of concern, particularly under intensive workloads.
The Pixel 10 is expected to bring improvements to these shortcomings.
Earlier rumors had pointed to an August 13 launch, but that date was never officially acknowledged. It remains unclear whether Google made an internal scheduling change. However, the confirmed August 20 date now aligns with those earlier reports, adding to the consistent pattern of accurate Pixel-related leaks.
