Tecno has unveiled its latest foldable concept device, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold, offering a fresh take on tri-fold design with an inward-folding mechanism that aims to maximize screen protection while maintaining a sleek profile.
Unlike Tecno’s earlier Phantom Ultimate 2, which featured a more exposed outward-folding screen, the G Fold concept folds inward to fully enclose the 9.94-inch main display. This change offers better durability by keeping the screen protected when the phone is closed, similar in concept to current horizontal bi-folds that include a cover display for basic use while folded.
The Phantom Ultimate G Fold uses a dual-hinge system: a smaller hinge folds one-third of the display into a teardrop shape, and a larger hinge folds the rest over it. A self-locking mechanism secures the device when closed. This configuration helps Tecno achieve an impressive 11.49mm thickness when folded, and just 3.49mm when unfolded, making it thinner than Huawei’s tri-fold phone, which ranges between 12.8mm (folded) and 3.6–4.8mm (unfolded).
Though the G Fold is slightly thicker than the 11mm Phantom Ultimate 2, the added cover display justifies the increase by significantly improving screen protection and usability.
Tecno claims the G Fold has a battery capacity of over 5,000 mAh, a notable achievement given the slim structure of each folding segment. While it doesn’t match Huawei’s 5,600 mAh capacity, the figure still stands out for a tri-fold concept device.
To support the foldable architecture, Tecno used ultra-high-strength steel rated at 2,000MPa and a 0.3mm Titan Fiber plate on the back panel. These materials help maintain rigidity without adding excessive weight or thickness.
The triple-camera setup is located on the middle third of the phone, which becomes the rear of the device when folded. The hinges can hold various angles, allowing the phone to be positioned like a tripod for more stable photography.
Details about the camera sensors and lenses have not yet been disclosed.
It’s important to note that the Phantom Ultimate G Fold remains a concept device and is not slated for commercial release, at least not yet. However, Tecno plans to showcase it publicly at MWC 2026, where it may share the stage with future models from the Phantom V Flip and V Fold series.
