The Punjab government has directed the environmental and municipal authorities to tackle the issue of untreated sewage flowing into Rawal Dam.
In a recent meeting, officials stressed the urgency of stopping domestic wastewater from areas like Bani Gala and Bahria Enclave from contaminating the lake, which supplies water to Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
An inter-departmental task force has been tasked with identifying the main sewage-discharge points, installing proper treatment facilities, and launching maintenance and monitoring efforts along tributaries to Rawal Dam.
The government hopes these measures will protect the city’s drinking water supply and reduce environmental hazards by early next year.
