The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced key changes in its system that will directly affect how families handle identity and registration documents in Pakistan.
One major update is that the old B-Form will no longer be accepted for passport applications. Parents will now need to get the new Child Registration Certificate (CRC) for their children if they want to apply for a passport.
NADRA officials say this decision was made to ensure that each child has a separate and verified identity, and to make their data more secure and reliable.
Another big change is about the Family Registration Certificate (FRC). NADRA has now given the FRC legal status, which means it can now be used in matters such as inheritance, court cases, and other legal processes.
Previously, it was mostly used for record-keeping or general identification, but now it holds official legal weight. NADRA has also updated the format of the FRC to reflect different types of family structures.
The new format now includes details for families made up of parents and siblings, husband and wife with children, and even men with multiple marriages—each marriage’s family details will be listed separately.
