Punjab Issues Flood Alerts as Intense Monsoon Rains Continue

Punjab is on high alert as heavy monsoon rains are expected to drench much of the province, with flood warnings in effect until July 25.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted widespread rainfall across most districts as the fourth monsoon spell gains momentum.

A PDMA spokesperson noted that this round of showers is anticipated to be more intense than earlier ones this season and will persist through July 25.

The agency has cautioned that the increased rainfall could lead to a surge in water levels in the upper catchment areas of major rivers.

Flood advisories have been issued for rivers and streams throughout Punjab, with particular concern for the Ravi, Jhelum, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers, where the risk of flooding is heightened.

To mitigate potential hazards, the PDMA Director General has instructed all Deputy Commissioners to remain on-site and strictly enforce Section 144 along riverbanks and streams.

Additionally, the Punjab Police have been ordered to ramp up patrols in vulnerable areas to help avert emergencies.
