Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated the upgraded Pak Business Express, a revamped passenger train service aimed at restoring public confidence in Pakistan Railways.
The ceremony took place at Lahore Railway Station, where he also reviewed various modernised facilities.
The upgraded Pak Business Express will run between Lahore and Karachi, with a journey time of 18.5 hours. Equipped with air-conditioned coaches, digital ticketing, modern lounges, and reception areas, the train is designed to offer improved comfort and efficiency.
It also includes European-style amenities for business-class passengers. Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister praised Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi for reviving what he called a “collapsed” system and transforming it into a functioning service again.
He also acknowledged Khawaja Saad Rafique’s contributions during the previous PDM government, particularly in recovering railway land and upgrading major stations.
Shehbaz Sharif said this step is part of a broader effort to reform state institutions and strengthen infrastructure. He also mentioned ongoing talks with China under CPEC Phase II and a positive shift in Pakistan’s diplomatic ties with the United States.
Addressing the nation’s economy, the PM claimed inflation had decreased by 5% and described the current indicators as signs of recovery. “We are heading in the right direction,” he added.
