The upcoming Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Karachi will exclusively operate electric buses, making it fully environment-friendly.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon shared this during a meeting with a World Bank delegation at the Yellow Line project site near Jam Sadiq Bridge.
The Yellow Line, funded by the World Bank, will run from Dawood Chowrangi in Quaidabad to Numaish. It will pass through Korangi Industrial Area, Main Korangi Road, FTC Interchange, Sharea Faisal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, and Kashmir Road before merging with the Red Line at Numaish.
Calling the project a “visionary step” for Karachi, the minister said the Yellow Line would offer safe, fast, and affordable transport to the public. “Only electric buses will be used to ensure minimal environmental impact,” he said.
He highlighted that Pakistan’s first electric bus service and the women-only Pink Bus were launched under their leadership, both of which are operating successfully. The new Yellow Line, he added, would further reduce fuel costs and pollution.
Memon also mentioned that an electric scooter scheme for women had received over 8,000 applications. He termed the Yellow Line a foundation for “social change,” not just a transport initiative.
He further updated the delegation on progress with the Karachi Circular Railway and the Karachi-Sukkur high-speed rail project.
To attract investment, the government has also introduced special economic zones with a 10-year tax break.

Transforming the outdated KCR into the Karachi Circular Mass Transit using electric buses is a forward-looking solution that addresses the realities of urban transport in the 21st century.
It’s not just about restoring an old route — it’s about reimagining urban mobility for a better Karachi
Project of Orange line goes fall down. no better planning no useful I saw only couple of passenger inside bus bcz very shot route . I am Orangi town residents there is no benefits for Orangians while the project become not long route, good planning. And the local buses form Orangi town like G27, G11,W25 and I thinks in no of hundreds local busus generate profits every time these buses is full. If government takes an eye on transport it no be flexible for Karachities but also generate capital for Karachi development or BRT services.

We already have red line buses on those routes. Karachi is huge city yet they introduce these bus services to similar routes everytime meanwhile we don’t have decent transport option from saadi town to university road. 😪
