Most citizens of the country are expected to get four back-to-back holidays this August, as Independence Day and Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) fall just before the weekend.
According to a Cabinet Division notification, Thursday, August 14, will be a public holiday nationwide for Independence Day. The Chehlum will fall on Friday, August 15.
While Chehlum is not listed among this year’s official federal holidays, local governments are expected to announce holidays in major cities, as was done last year in Karachi and Rawalpindi.
With Saturday and Sunday following these two important days, citizens will benefit from a rare four-day break from August 14 to 17.
Authorities have also been directed to tighten security measures for both occasions to ensure peaceful celebrations and processions.
