Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the appointment of two senior diplomats to key foreign postings, acting on the recommendation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, diplomatic sources told 24NewsHD TV on Monday.
Shafqat Ali Khan has been named Pakistan’s new envoy to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), while the current ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, will take over as Pakistan’s ambassador to Russia.
The decision was formalised after the prime minister endorsed the summary submitted by DPM Ishaq Dar.
According to diplomatic officials, Shafqat Ali Khan is presently serving as the spokesperson for the Foreign Office. He has previously represented Pakistan as ambassador to Poland and Russia.
