The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Sunday confiscated and disposed of 8,000 kilograms of foul-smelling meat during a raid at a warehouse on Service Road, Dhoke Kashmirian.
According to a PFA spokesperson, the seized meat lacked an official slaughterhouse seal, constituting a clear breach of food safety regulations. It was allegedly being transported to Rawalpindi from Sargodha, Jhang, and Gojra in regular vehicles without proper refrigeration.
Veterinary tests confirmed the meat was unsafe for consumption, showing signs of water adulteration and emitting a strong odour. Officials estimated its market value at approximately Rs. 9.6 million.
Authorities have identified those involved in the illegal operation, and a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the relevant police station. An investigation is currently in progress.
PFA Director General stated that the authority maintains a zero-tolerance stance against the sale and distribution of substandard meat across Punjab. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities or complaints via the PFA helpline 1223 for prompt action.
