Pakistan’s three-match ODI series in the Caribbean is set for a tense finale this evening against the West Indies, but all eyes will also be on the skies above Tarouba as the weather could play a crucial role in the outcome once more.
The deciding fixture at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy comes with the series locked at 1-1 and a weather forecast that could make it another stop-start affair.
After the rain-hit second ODI in which 15 overs were lost, conditions for the decider are expected to be no different. Meteorologists warn of intermittent showers throughout the day, with another hot and humid session for the players. The morning may bring light rain before heavier afternoon bursts, amounting to around 7mm over roughly two-and-a-half hours. There’s also an 85% chance of precipitation and a 25% possibility of thunderstorms, with easterly winds gusting up to 33 km/h.
Weather conditions were expected to be unfavourable in the opening game as well, but the match went on as expected, so a prediction for a stop-start game isn’t set in stone.
The adverse weather, however, proved profitable for the West Indies in the second ODI, as they managed to secure a five-wicket win against Pakistan to level the series at 1-1. A victory in the third ODI would seal their first bilateral ODI series win over Pakistan since 1991.
With both sides looking for a win, the third ODI promises a gripping contest if the weather allows it. The contest could turn into a battle of wits once again, and the world will be watching to see who comes out on top.
