Two Public Holidays Announced in Lahore

The Lahore district administration has announced Friday, August 15, as a public holiday to mark the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA).

A notification confirmed that all government offices, educational institutions, and public departments in Lahore will remain closed that day. With August 14 already a public holiday for Independence Day, residents of Lahore will have two consecutive days off.

The Urs of Hazrat Ali Hajveri, widely known as Data Sahib, draws thousands of devotees from across Pakistan to his shrine in Lahore each year.

The announcement comes alongside similar decisions in other parts of the country. Last week, the Sindh Education Department declared August 15 a holiday for all public and private educational institutions in observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), a day of mourning marked by millions worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad district administration declared August 13 as a local holiday within the federal capital’s revenue limits, according to a notification issued by ICT District Magistrate Irfan Nawaz Memon.
