Pakistan’s Largest Dam Reaches Full Capacity

The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) announced on Thursday that Tarbela Dam has reached its maximum conservation level of 1,550 feet, with a storage capacity of 5.7268 million acre-feet (MAF).

According to a Wapda spokesperson, water inflow from the Indus River at Tarbela was recorded at 268,300 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 238,900 cusecs.

At Mangla Dam, the water level has risen to 1,217.45 feet — about 74.5% of its maximum 1,242 feet. The reservoir is currently holding 5.423 MAF. Inflows from the Jhelum River measured 38,600 cusecs, while outflow remained at 7,000 cusecs.

Meanwhile, Chashma Barrage reported an inflow of 403,500 cusecs and an outflow of 351,600 cusecs, with the reservoir storing 0.094 MAF.

Overall, the country’s water reserves now stand at 11.245 MAF.

Flood updates show the Indus River is at high flood levels at Guddu Barrage, medium flood at Taunsa and Sukkur, and low flood conditions at Kalabagh and Chashma. Downstream of Kotri Barrage, flows remain below the low flood threshold.
