Pakistan is Facing Biggest Flood Since 1988

Punjab is facing its most severe flooding in years, with authorities confirming that this is the first flood of such intensity since 1988.

Reports suggest that Kasur, Sialkot, and Narowal districts are already partially submerged, and experts fear the situation will worsen downstream. This means that in the next one to two days, large parts of Punjab could face extremely dangerous flooding.

Authorities warn that the disaster could result in severe human loss as well as massive damage to infrastructure, with potential losses reaching into the trillions.

Early estimates indicate that over 20 million residents in Punjab may be affected, as the Sutlej, Chenab, and Ravi rivers cut through densely populated regions of the province.

Experts fear not only significant human casualties but also damage to infrastructure worth trillions of rupees. With more water expected to enter the rivers, authorities are on high alert, preparing for what could be the province’s worst flood in nearly four decades.
